Welcome to my "What's New" page!

September 2, 2012 There's been a lot of work under the cover, in 2010-2011 I did a nearly total rewrite of the infrastructure for the site. But it had no changes in content, really, so I didn't mention it. Today, however, I am adding a bunch of new pages, generated automatically by a facebook app I wrote, and all under the menu item Bocas Del Toro. These are the photo albums that I've created since 2010 :-)
May 31, 2009 Posted final webpages for "Rhapsody to Central America", including Hanging out in Bocas, a trip to Cayos Zapatillos and Agua, and a page summarizing the trip. Also reworked the Main Rhapsody Page and the Adventure Page as well as the structure of the entire site to encapsulate the trip and prepare for a new approach to future webpages.
January 16, 2009 Posted four webpages about the first weeks in Bocas Del Toro. The first one describes my First Impressions of Bocas Del Toro, the 2nd, Christmas in Bocas, the third describes New Years Eve at Playa Mango, and the fourth cover's Chris's Visit to Bocas Del Toro and RHAPSODY.

Then we restarted the adventure by going to the historic town of Portobello. Next I spent a pretty uneventful, but rainy week at Isla Linton, before finally making it to the paradise which is the San Blas Islands, including pages for Chichime and the islands of Uchutupu, the East Lemon Cays including a snorkel trip to dive the wreck at Dog Island, and, finally, a page for the trip to Porvenir and Miriadiadup.

I also updated my previous sailing, travel, and Mandala webpages to reflect my new lifestyle aboard Rhapsody, as well as going back and correcting the systemic mis-spelling of several proper names (Delfin Solo, Marianne).

September 20, 2007 Updated (finally!) the Rhapsody Log pages, including putting up individual pages for the Maiden Voyage, Rhapsody's Coming Out Party, the Fourth of July, three Bay Sails, with Don and Ginny, Marc, Ron, and Ron, and Theo, Greta, Kevin, respectively, and the three day Sea Trial to Catalina with Steve Whittlesey. For those interested, I also added another page of Improvements to Rhapsody.

August 27, 2006 Put up the last pages of Mandala Log for the 2006 San Fancisco Sailing Trip.
June 11, 2006 Put up a Mandala Log pages for the Circumnavigation of Catalina Island. Also put up a Forgotten Space page for our recent SBM Gig at the San Francisco Marriot Hotel.
April 10th, 2006 Reworked the website in mysterious and hidden ways.

The outline is now automatically generated as opposed to manually entered, so that I can add web pages without creating new outline entries. Got rid of any notion of keeping a per-user id, which was vestigal anyways, and now fully use cookies to keep track of the outline expanded and collapsed state, the version numbers of pages viewed, and so on. Cleaned Up and factored all the perl code on the site, as well as all my other sites and on my local machine (deploy.cgi, compare.cgi, sync.cgi) by creating two perl modules phCommon.pm and phUtils.pm which provide libraries of common functions. Also provided RedirectMatch clauses to httpd.conf to remap any moved pages so that if you have bookmarks to the moved pages, you should automatically be taken to their new location.

You shouldn't really notice anything. But it really was a fairly major change to the website.

By the way, these changes will invalidate any existing cookies, and hence will cause users (you) to lose all their history, and thus will cause a bunch of items to appear as "updated" that have not really changed . Theoretically, when you visit my site, you should only have to click the red What's New! link to go to each changed page, in order. Clicking the red What's New link is not the same as viewing this What's New page ... it actually takes you to the changed web pages!!. When you have viewed them all, the red link and all the red exclamation points should disappear. Then if you come back to the site, and you don't see the red What's New link then it means that nothing has changed and you don't have to waste any to see if you've missed something.

Get it?

So I hope you'll take advantage of this feature. Clear the What's New status when you have viewed the site today, and when you return, you should only see new items that I've changed since your last visit.

Also finally put up pages for Christmas 2003, and a page for when I went to the opening day at Petco Park.

Also Put up a page for this Christmas

I removed the Mailing List from the site on this revision.
November 15, 2004 Moved websites to new server at ServerPronto.com. Just $29.95/month for a 40G dedicated server, way better than the $100/month I was paying at CIHost. Spent a month setting up site infrastructure and security.
June 30, 2004 Put up a page for the recent trip to Sequoia National Park and the Stanislaus Forest. Also added pages for two new boxes that I made: Ginny's and Don's Lion and Unicorn backgammon board.
June 9, 2004 Put up a page for the recent Yosemite Trip.
July 31, 2003 Whew. Finished CNL's Wedding Video/Slideshow and sent it out to them, so finally able to add a page for the last trip to Jamaica for Chris and Liz's Jamaican Wedding and a new javascript-slideshow page for my trip to Vermont for their reception. Also changed the Friends page to a "links" page and buried the montage one page deeper in the hierarchy.
July 8, 2003 Added pages for Picture Frames, the New Trees at our house, and the Jacuzzi Project.
March 9, 2003 Added a page for the Walnut and Maple Heart Shaped Jewelry Box.
February 6, 2003 Added a page with a virtual tour of my house, including my recording studio.
February 3, 2003 Added a page for the new Forgotten Space recording One Dream Avenue, added a Furniture page to show the Spoon Cabinet I made for a friend for Christmas.
January 25, 2003 Modified my Band History page to more accurately reflect the actual members of the band as I've started reworking the Forgotten Space site.
January 5, 2003 Added pages for the boxes I made for Christmas, including: War Medals, Fran's, the Diamond boxes, and the Poplar/Oak boxes.
November 5, 2002 Added the Dancing Bears Toybox page.
October 25, 2002 After a long hiatus I added the Don And Liz's Boxes page. The real news, however, is that I finally quit my job and am retired now!! As such I hope to be spending most of my time making music, so look forward to updates to the band and music pages in the near future!
May 22, 2002 Added the Chris's Vacation Box page, but mostly have been diddling with the very first link on the main page, while wondering what to do about the forgotten space website. So for now, the main page on phorton.com is still the best place to find out about the band. I'll probably be working on the forgotten space website in the near future.
May 4, 2002 For all intents and purposes the site is finished!. I recently completed the Woodworking branch and will get around to the Programming branch as time permints on an ongoing basis.

From now on I will be adding new experiences as they happen, or shortly thereafter :-)
April 26, 2002 Updated/created the whole Woodworking branch. Still need to do "workshop" and "woodlinks" pages. Also did some more work on the strategy for handlling robots, and got some of the "programming" examples ready for publishing. Done with almost everything but the "programming" branch.
April 24, 2002 Put up some additional Travel pages, including a page for my trip to Jamaica in 2001. Also put up Personal pages including Christmas Pages for 1999 and 2001. Finally, also added color schemes for most major subtrees (Rockets, Woodworking, and Personal) and a backend scheme for generating keywords.

Gettin there !

Not too much more to go before I'm caught up and can start experiencing life again!
April 22, 2002 Put up my Recordings - Early Works page, and added some color to the Music pages.
April 19, 2002 Put up the On the Way and Thank You San Diego! pages. Added links to all recording pages to allow users to play all songs as an album. Added links to real.com. Added mailto links. Blew off the history again due to a bug (still trying to keep those pesky robots at bay). BTW, the site will go "officially" live sometime in the next week or two.
April 17, 2002 The www.forgottspace.com website is active as of today ! and www.phorton.net is working again! Everything is working. Now I just have to complete the content!
April 16, 2002 Ported site to my new dedicated server, being hosted at CIHOST located in Texas. Instead of paying $29/month for 500M from SpeedyWeb up in Chicago. I'm now paying $99/month for a whole goldarned machine! It's a 900mhz Althion with a 40gig hard disk .. 8 dedicated IP numbers, and an unlimited number of virtual domains, hooked up via a 100mpbs network card to a T1 or OC3 or whatever. I really recommend CIHOST to anyone looking for a good deal on a chunk of space. They have their ups and downs, but they have a 24 hour support staff featuring online chat AND a person you can call on the phone.
April 13, 2002 The mailing list and search pages (and any other straight cgi scripts) are broken because my ISP changed their cgi execution scheme last night. I probably wont fix the pages, but will wait to fix them until I have relocated the page on my own server, www.phorton.net.

The mailing list and search pages have been removed from the menu.
April 10, 2002 Initial full deployment. See how this goes!
April 4, 2002 Pretty much finished working out infrastructure issues. Parts of the site have been deployed and live-tested. Still working on content standards, aesthetics, and have a lot of work to do on the content. I'm hoping to get enough done this weekend to deploy it by Sunday night ... hah! We'll see -)
